I bought this one on sale and thought the description sounded interesting. I almost stopped listening several times, not because of the triggers (and the author managed to cram rape of a minor, child predator/underaged sex, cult, s&m and some really far out plot twists all into one book) but because it was dragging on. I feel like it had potential, but found it ironic that the fmc started talking about “filler” in books just to plump up the pages. For me, I felt that half of it is just that to try to make the story more interesting or maybe to make it more “shocking”. Then she wrapped it all up in the last hour of the book. I noticed a lot of repetition in description patterns that annoyed me. Plus, I really didn’t care for the way the female narrator portrayed the fmc. She made her sound desperate and naïve which was a direct contradiction to her constant remarks about how she was raised on the streets. I continued to the end only because I pause for it. I feel like for over 20 hours of story, it should have not felt so empty throughout, then rushed at the end.
