Jeff Hays is a fantastic narrator and really elevates whatever he reads. However, the story was very lackluster. I understand this is supposed to be a sci-fi retelling of Confessions but by setting it in the sci-fi format, it leaves many avenues wide open for exploration.

Spoilers—

Blatant evidence that God and all catholic theology is real is shown with footage of the resurrection. This idea that earth is where God is closest is the reason the pilgrims have travelled to earth. I would have liked if it explored the Pilgrims wrestling with the idea that humans are Gods focus. The ideas in the book just seem like the author writing catholic fan-fiction then tacking on “but what if there were aliens?”. By expanding the scope of Confessions to include aliens, there needs to be an added layer of deeper philosophical thought if the author isn’t going to play with the sci-fi themes.

TLDR: catholic aliens make man feel bad about watching a guy die and spending a bunch of money on an only fans model.
