Let me start by saying this is the first book in a series and it does end on a cliffhanger. I knew that going in and thought I could handle it… but I did not expect to get sucked into this story so fast. When I say I couldn’t stop listening, I truly mean it.
I did end up bumping the narration to 1.2x speed (which I never do) because the narrator felt a bit slow for my taste—but aside from that, the narration was a perfect fit for the book.
The forbidden, age-gap, student/professor trope is done so well here—and very differently from anything I’ve read before. It doesn’t follow the usual formula. From the very beginning, it’s intriguing, almost like you’ve stepped into a mind game where you’re never quite sure who’s the cat and who’s the mouse.
The psychological aspect is especially compelling. As Professor Kenny tells his students, this isn’t some TV show—we’re getting a glimpse of real evil, and it’s portrayed perfectly.
Ratings:
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Narration: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (only docked one star for pacing—but you can easily fix that with playback speed)
Steam: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
The one major scene was very hot, but nothing followed—and honestly, that felt like a shame. I really needed more.
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I can’t wait for the next one!
