I bought this book from a recommendation from the LitRPG group and now that I’m almost finished I can say for sure that this is one of the worst series I’ve listened to.
The series follows the same premise as “Dead Tired” by following a max leveled character in a fantasy world, with the plot focusing on retirement plans in the form of kingdom building. The series started fine with the promised focus on research and reluctantly growing a community. The first book was fine and the supporting characters were interesting, but over the course of the series the focus on mundanity became irritating. In the fiest book it was the focus on tea in every second chapter, which panned out eventually, but in the later books it was replaced with wine, clothes and coaches. Those mentions felt like they are trying to be funny but with the very monotone narrator it felt very forced. The world building started interesting but quickly devolged into a “Tell don’t Show” with the stakes growing higher and higher but the plot keeps moving at a snails pace. like 90% of the book is “what I had for dinner today and what wine pairing angered me more, while the big bad monster patiently waits for me to finish”.
