In this story Sybil, a self-confident and opinionated older woman, reveals her life in letters. The book shows her evolution in the present, as events slowly chip at her protective shell, and we find out the painful truths that have constricted her relationships. She does a lot of work to repair those relationships, and becomes a fuller and much more caring person, and finds happiness in the end.
This short synopsis doesn’t account for the many revelations and events that animate the book, but they are engaging. We stay involved to find out the resolutions to the many issues the letters hold.
The lynchpin of this Audible book is the person speaking Sybil’s part, Maggie-Mae Reed, and she is wonderful and perfect.
