I’m bereft that this novel came to an end. I would not have believed how captivated I could become by listening to a series of letters to and from a protagonist. But what a protagonist! At turns snarky and tender, intelligent and clueless, Sybil is a gem. The readers were simply brilliant too. I felt as though I was listening to a play – and a fabulous play! – I wanted Sybil’s story to go on and on. I learned so much from her: how to conduct a correspondence, a relationship, a life through questions and honesty and persistence and loss and forgiveness…. I will certainly listen to this book again, in time. I am guessing Evans will be absolutely inundated with long, handwritten letters for the next five years! I wonder if she will find the time to answer each one!!
