This series is challenging to define. I wrote an earlier review saying I would be unlikely to continue the series after book 3 or 4. But I had more huge home improvements to do and people kept saying “it gets better!” So I listened to another book or two.

Was it worth it? I dunno. Probably not. But it was ok. It’s over-complicated on boring details, repetitiously single-noted on juvenile humor, and unendingly annoying with convenient deus ex machina storytelling.

That being said, the sidekick character of Donut the cat is genuinely entertaining and well written.

It’s a very confusingly problematic book. It’s not so bad as to be bad, definitely not so good to be good. If you have too many credits, I’m sure there’s a great many things worse that you could waste them on. But after this book, I’m done with the series. It has nothing more it can offer me. Congrats to the author, definitely using AI, for getting so many credits out of me.
