This story doesn’t stand up to scrutiny and has too many inconsistencies.

Fantasy writers need careful judgement when creating made up worlds with characters that have ‘special’ powers. For me this judgement is lacking with this book.

So much of this ‘created’ world draws upon Japanese culture. Why not create the culture as well to help make it more believable? There and other examples where the author hasn’t tried very hard to differentiate this world from the world we all know. Here we have families that can manipulate objects with superhuman powers and in the next moment there are mentions of TV, computer games and a bunch of other references that would be familiar to anyone reading this book.

At times this feels like a book aimed at young teens. It has well written battle scenes with later long drawn-out sequences that dwell for too long on the emotions arising from the interactions between characters.

It has sequences intended to shock the readers which add nothing to the story. It doesn’t appear that anyone edited this book?

It is great that so many people who have read this book have been so positive with their reviews. I just don’t get it?
