Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman is a fun and immersive read. This was my first LitRPG and I really enjoyed it. The story was action packed and hooks you in right from the start. The world building is creative and detailed. I also enjoyed the cast of characters. Matt laid the breadcrumbs for lots of character development to come in future books. The overall story has a commentary on human nature which puts the scenarios our hero’s find themselves in, in a different light.

There are a lot of characters in this first book, but my absolute favorite is Princess Donut. I’m proudly in the Princess Donut Posse forever. A lot of that has to do with the narration. I read this book via audiobook. The narration is performed by the amazing Jeff Hayes and he does a phenomenal job of bringing this story to life. Each character has a distinct voice and personality. I don’t know how he does it! If you have the chance, I recommend listening to the audio version of this book.

Dungeon Crawler Carl was a joyous surprise and I can’t wait to continue on with the series. I give this book 5 stars.
