if I hear one more mention of scones or Aylas chest I will break down.
This author reads like a newbie DM, the NPC dialogue is stilted and inhuman, that one inside joke gets repeated ad nauseum but the grand campaign moves forward.
I genuinely have never experienced character dialogue this bad, it made me wonder if this was a machine translation or if maybe this book was targeted towards children like a baby’s first litrpg. Whatever the case it’s bad, Characters don’t express themselves like real people they talk like RPG NPCs and it hurts the structure of this book.
it makes it hard to care about what characters are saying and makes it harder to care about the plot in general.
The humor is also painful. I love jokes, I love to laugh but I can literally hear the author snigger to themselves every other sentences as the non-stop attempts at humor pile up into an ugly collections of 3 jokes repeated 1000 times. it’s a classic example of how constant non-stop humor drains tension and meaning out of every character interaction. if they aren’t joking it’s a setup into the next joke, or a hamfisted attempt at drama or sadness that is immediately cut off at the knees by another mention of scones or sarcasm.
There’s an overarching plot/mystery box that’s hinted at that might be interesting but I don’t want to put myself through more of their writing to get to it.
