4.5/5 I’m not totally sure why I like this as much as I do, but I really do, lol. It’s an old-style whodunnit in many ways, but it’s crossed with spies, PTSD, queerness, and characters longing for a place to belong. It’s quiet and understated for the most part, and Leo and James’s romance is in quiet moments and occasional touches and looks and conversations.
They both tugged on my heartstrings as they tried to do the right thing (in their own way) and fumbled their way to a relationship. I liked the backdrop of village life and village neighbours and friends trying to live their lives following the war. It felt very cozy despite the murder elements.
Joel Leslie’s narration is fabulous as always!
