First, Jeff Hays is by far my favorite male narrator to grace my ear holes. Second, Matt Dinniman is my favorite male writer I have ever read. And, last, I would have never started this series if it weren’t for my wonderful booktok family. While I generally stick to Fantasy and Paranormal books, this one fits because of the political commentary that is layered so deep in this story which is the why behind my live for fantasy and paranormal worlds. This book cracked my heart open because of the implications connected to our own world I am terrified constantly and yet I will never let these awful humans break me or the people around me. I can only hope that stories like this bring more and more awareness to the people that are holding and causing this harm. hope is hard to hold on to and I can only try my best to embody the live for humanity that Carl and Donut both show throughout these books.
