I’ll start by saying that Jeff Hays is an absolute wizard. The narration in this book is next-level; it’s more of a voice-acting masterclass than a standard audiobook. He gives every character—and every cat—a completely unique and believable soul. If I were rating based on performance alone, it would be a ten-star review.
However, I just couldn’t get past the constant cursing. I’m all for gritty action and high stakes, but the sheer amount of profanity felt excessive and started to pull me out of the story. It felt like it was trying a bit too hard to be “edgy,” and it eventually became more of a distraction than an enhancement. The premise is wild and the pacing is fast, but the dialogue style just isn’t my cup of tea. If you don’t mind a constant barrage of f-bombs, you’ll probably love it for the production value alone, but it was a bit much for me.
