I bought this book because Jeff Hayes and Sound Booth Theatre were used for narration. I’m very disappointed in the narration and I think it harmed this book. Jeff’s southern accent for the MC that switches to another voice when the MC is talking was so distracting and annoying. I don’t know if that alone is enough to not give this narration a passing score, however, the use of the Arnold Schwarzenegger voice for the side character was enough to turn me off this book series.

That said though.. I have some other issues with the story as well. Around chapter 4 there was a character named Shannon who appears to have been raped. There is a rescue scene where this person is tied up in a basement and in this case is naked. The author specifically makes mention of how the main character should respect her privacy when helping untie her naked form. What’s weird is his thoughts remarking how cute she was, recalling her previous bare image thinking “despite the chastisement the image did not fade.” It just gave off a gross feeling here with the author sexualizing a rape victim. Another reviewer suggested this series becomes a harem. If so I really hope this isn’t indication of her become part of one.

In addition, the very savage, gratuitous, torturous way the main character’s follower kills people (in the name of the MC’s God) is psychotic too. Did the author set up a rape scene to help readers adjust to the brutality? It continues on in other situations even over a mere perceived insult to his God. Having a collar bone ripped out and spiked through an eye while the victim pleads occurs if you need an image here for what I’m talking about.

Anyway DNF.
