First of all, if you’re going into this expecting DCC vibes, you’re going in wrong. I listened to this one on audio and actually really enjoyed it! I thought Travis did a great job and of course we got to have Jeff in there for a little bit as well.
The planet, New Sonora, finds themselves suddenly invaded by gamers from earth that are paying for the privilege to destroy them. Everything that everybody has worked for is at risk and they have to defend their planet.
Of course, in true Matt fashion we have humor, great characters, a lot of action that is tons of fun, but we also have a bit more. Did it get you in the feels? Yes. This book has a bit of a heavier vibe to it and also has components that relate to today’s world and make you think a bit. One of the big ones, AI.
I loved all of the characters in this story, and I felt for them with what they were going through. I do think Roger may have been my favorite! LuLu was also definitely a trip!
I did not expect this one to end the way that it did, but I really did thoroughly enjoy it. While it was heavier, the humor was in there at the right points to make you laugh and break up the heavy.
