I think I may have gone in with too high an expectation. It feels like Dinniman got ChatGPT to write this, it sounds like a Dinniman book, but lacks any of the charm, the characterisation, the sense of humour, the bonkers storyline that I would expect… The more detail he added, the more “backstory”, the more (YAWN-WORTHY) weapon spec details, the more I realised it was there to hide that the story was actually paper-thin. AND THE ANNOYING THING IS, is that the story could have been amazing, the potential was there! ALSO, the thing he is famous for: the few action scenes were so low-stakes for me and honestly, kinda boring.
Then, I also hated the narration, It felt weirdly sped up, I needed to tune the speed down to be able to follow all the boring-ass weapon talk that I somehow expected to be important. Also, narration feels vaguely racist, There, I said it, Ok bye.
