Decent enough SciFi story, but not really what I was expecting from such a good author.
The characters weren’t all that interesting and I wasn’t able to get invested in them like Matt’s other work.
The story’s pacing is the real issue for me. A lot of the story feels like he was trying to make a minimum word count. This book could have benefitted from being much shorter.
The plot is a tried and true formula. I pretty much guessed the ending a quarter way into the books.
I’m glad I read it, but it’s not my favorite. Though I will say; coming eight into this book after finishing book 7 of the DCC series may have tainted my appreciation for this style of novel.
