So this audio book must have been released at the same time that the book was published. The book was published Feb. 10 2026, and this is March 2026 that I finished it. While listening, I loved the story and the style of storytelling. A great listen. Once I was done and stood back to examine it as a piece of literature… dang, this is on the nose. If some kid in the future asks me what was on our minds on 2026, I’ll direct them to this book. Dehumanization of migrants (specifically Hispanic migrants), a corrupt system that leads every day people to see others as less than human, our fears over AI, and even the feeling of hopelessness at fighting back. Yup. That’s a good summary of the zeitgeist. It will be interesting to come back to this book on a few years (if we make itπŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«) and see how it holds up.
