Overall, the whole series was easy to listen to and enjoyable but as the series wound down, the characters repeated self induced stumbles and idiotic decisions made the story bog down. For a military trained specialist, Ben continued to make the same mistakes over and over, even while the narrator explains that in his gut he knows he shouldn’t be doing it. If I was following a leader like that, he would not be the leader. He would only be the main gun man as that seems to be the spot where he shines the most. Who in their right mind would take three dogs across country in a post apocalyptic world without securing them with leashes, who in their right mind would continually go against their “instincts” and make decisions that imperils their family on a regular basis. The authors wash rinse and repeat narrative was so cumbersome that by the end I only wished for the story to be over so that I could mark it as completed. I started the series with a 4.5, but ended it on about a 1.5
