Things to know before purchasing: This is the sixth book in an ongoing series. Each one builds upon the other, so if you wish to avoid spoilers, you should read them in book number order. There is some violence otherwise pretty darn clean.
Ben, former Army Ranger and Dad, has taught all his children their way around weapons. That doesn’t mean that he wants them to experience the repercussions of using them on those who would do them harm. While doing what needs to be done for the return trip, he must also weigh the risks versus the rewards of what they take and just what he is going to share with his younger children.
In a post-apocalyptic situation where people will do whatever is necessary to take care of their own, Ben has a lot to process. I think that the author does a wonderful job of interweaving Ben’s thought process while sorting through stuff. The author also does a great job of showing the various sides of Ben: father, son-in-law, and friend.
