Matt Dinnamon himself called this book series “so silly” and it is. This isn’t Dostoyevsky, this is pure entertainment. But still there was potential for more depth with the underground floors expanding some deeper meaning, but I’m not sure it is that. I was bored by the LitRPG gaming stuff. And at one point pants were handed out at the ward from an award box, so why can’t Carl get pants? My ears pricked up and I enjoyed when he talked about estrangement with his father, and I like the DnD-like side characters Brandon, Chris, Yvonne? The nurse with the battle axe. These side characters are more interesting, though they don’t feature much, than Carl and Donut, who is just a cliche with a breathless princess voice. The Donut character’s voice is too silly for me to enjoy.
