Poor Verona Moretti. Being forced to marry one-time childhood friend turned persona non grata Luca Vitale would be bad enough, but when he turns out to be a giant alphahole? Man, oh man. Good thing she’s got some naivety and kindness in her court.

Now, I read the second book in the series first, so I knew where this was going, but to actually read it was definitely worth it.

I love how she proves him wrong at every turn. His rose, or rather hate, colored glasses allow him to make so many assumptions. I love how he can’t comprehend what he sees. Of course, once things start to click, he still manages to make missteps because his communication skills can use an overhaul. 😄

There are twists and turns. Some are obvious, some less so. All in all, a good, dark foray into this Mafia family. Oh, it’s also really steamy with many BDSM elements.

I received an author’s copy of the audio book. The narrators, Cecily Foster and Vincent Skye, are engaging with the emotions matching the words and situations. I really like them.
