I am an hour away from completing this book. I listen to lots of audiobooks and for some reason, I can’t tell if it’s the story that is just boring or if it’s the narrator.. it’s monotone. No phrase packs any punch. And I can’t tell if it’s the writing that is lackluster and doesn’t commit or if it’s this narrator who has no punch. ???
I want to like this but I feel like I’m going crazy. I’m spending more time trying to figure out why this is a struggle and what’s missing than I am absorbing the content.
Is this YA? I saw this suggested on TikTok and dove in maybe that’s it?? I don’t need spicy but I find myself not really caring about any “conflict” that is in the “plot.” Ugh. 😭
Oh also, the narrator seems to make this girl sound so weak, indecisive. Others talk about ness as if she’s strong, stubborn, outspoken. But this woman’s voice is the opposite of that.
And as for the writing, there’s no building of the scenery. I swear, an hour from the end I realized she is blonde. The whole time I’m picturing this “inn” to be some broken down hotel and her family to be gross and sleazy but it’s got a balcony and now her uncle seems to “care?” Idk… I’m just finding this to be a struggle and lacking.
