The writer needs to light her thesaurus on fire and repent of ever using it. No one coughs raucously. That’s not what that word means.
Entertaining and sweet. August deserves better than Ness. She’s kind of awful to him. And yet everyone in her world gifts her lavishly and acts as if she’s wonderful. Meanwhile she feels nothing but sad and sorry for herself. Despite an unlikable, childish heroine, the story is good enough to keep me picking it back up again.
The vocal performance was tolerable. Not singsong or droning. No terrible impressions to suffer through. But so often she read the dialogue with emphasis and inflection on the wrong words so the character’s meaning changed and I had to rethink what she had read in terms of what the character had said their motivation and goals were.
