The narration is outstanding. Really, very good. I listened at 1.5x and found it thoroughly enjoyable.
The story wasn’t my cup of tea. It almost seemed to give the middle finger to the fan base it was purportedly wooing. To be fair, the narrative takes shots at many segments of the population. I just felt the RPG elements were always “nerfed” into a jab at the genre. Every perk, upgrade and achievement was a “Screw you, you get nothing!” Willy Wonka-esque moment. It never felt like the gaming aspect was even taken seriously, so why call this LitRPG/Gamelit?
The story was okay by itself, but I won’t be continuing the journey. Perhaps if I had entered this as a Sci-fi series, I’d be more inclined to continue. But when you advertise a drink as lemonade, I’d better be able to taste the lemons.
Also, minus points for gratuitous blasphemy.
