Got through the first book through sheer willpower.
1st off, the good, of which there was little.
Interesting antagonists, interesting world, starts very predictable but quickly veers into being somewhat interesting.
Now, the bad. I am going to be succinct as I refuse to spend much time. First off I finished the first book to try to get some of my money’s worth, at least time wise.
But I found the majority of the characters insufferable. Like literally nearly every one, except a few of the villains. There is nothing wrong with a good set of villains you sometimes root for…but wow.. I really wanted to protags to kick the bucket by half of the way in.
In fact one or the protags I mildly liked devolved before my minds eye.
This first book should be a case study in how to make a OP character unpalatable. The weakest part of the story was the OP char and the utter annoyance I had with his existence…it really crushed my interest. He literally has zero qualities that make it worth the story suffering his partaking in it.
If I ever revist the rest of the series it will be to see if the last 2 books can change my view, which is actually tempting to find out. (price already paid but would it be worth the loss of time to findout?….hmmm)
In the meantime, off to other worlds I go.
