i’d like to start this review first by saying I am a big carry lake fan and I enjoy her work and overall dark themes.
for me, this book was a bit too all over the place. Inconsistencies with character development. Too many characters, competing for main headline in the plot.
I also found the overall love story harder, too understand the female- I think was too young for the overall perspective she had and her character development didn’t align with her experiences or age. It was odd. The female MC experienced all this personal abuse, but didn’t have any pause for the red flags about the male main character and his very serious red flag.
overall, the death of a child was just too difficult for me and while I did finish the story, I wish I hadn’t. As a mom, those things hit home and I wish the trigger warnings have been more specific about the tragic death of a young child.
