As a huge vampire lover, I went into this dark fantasy romance with high hopes—but it fell flat for me. The book had some fun, unique elements—like firebirds, shadow birds, vampire clans, and a brewing war between human-born and pure vampires. But despite the creative worldbuilding, Scarlett’s constant self-loathing made the story hard to enjoy, and I found myself forcing my way to the end. The only saving grace was the cliffhanger, which was genuinely intriguing, but I won’t be continuing the series.
