Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved this book. It’s a great story of a wonderful family and a piece of American immigrant history. If you, like me, come from a family of immigrants, you’ll appreciate the back story, even if your family came from a different place.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Every character in the book was genuine. I really didn’t have a favorite. I think I’d love them all if I met them in person.
What does Bill Lord bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Bill Lord brought the Glosser family right into my living room, sat down with them, and told me their story. I could almost smell the roasting cashews and peanuts! I wish Glosser’s Department Store was in MY town growing up.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The very last chapter of the book, the last customer, was beautiful. The author’s ability to paint a picture with words, and the narrator’s treatment of the passage was poignant and engaging.
