I received a free audiobook version of “The Shroud Key” in exchange for an honest review.
Chase Baker is a best-selling author, treasure hunter, and sometime tour guide. He is hired to find a missing archeologist who was on the trail of the physical remains of Jesus Christ. He’s accompanied by Anya, the archeologist’s gorgeous ex-wife.
While finding the archeologist is the primary goal, Chase is not adverse to picking up the bones of Jesus along the way. The working theory is that the holy remains are moved periodically, and that the current location is encoded on the Shroud of Turin. Just suspend disbelief and go with it. The hunt is on!
Some of the dialog is just silly–like Chase’s conversations with his dog and his constant wisecracks. However, the narrator does a decent job with all the different accents and conveys feminine voices without employing the annoying falsettos that some male readers use.
It’s a fun listen with a great ending.
