Wow, where to begin? The Butcher’s Masquerade is one of the best books in the series thus far, taking place on the 6th floor, which we all knew would rival the 3rd floor as one of Scolopendra’s special levels. This book starts out with a resounding bang and the pressure stays high the entire time. From Carl’s first “explosive” attack until his last efforts to save his fellow crawlers, the book keeps you hooked. Matt outdid himself with the drama included in this book, specifically drawing on the wild revelations discovered in the epilogue of book 4 and breaks our collective hearts with the losses suffered throughout the story. Jeff, as always, gives us a excellent reading with his dynamic range and the incredible talent that he possesses. It’s genuinely hard to believe that there could be any more writing to go on Matt’s part, as the story doesn’t seem like it can get any crazier than it already is. Trust me though, it can. And remember, the Hunter’s have been released.
