This third book in the Moons & Runes Private Investigators series really delivered on the cozy mystery and magical vibes I’ve come to expect. Thea Dawson is dealing with a lot, grief, magical disconnection, a comatose business partner/cousin, and now a cursed amulet and a missing girl. But what keeps the story grounded is her circle of loyal, spiritually gifted friends who support her through it all.
The setting in The Pentacle is as charming and mystical as ever, and I loved being back in the New Age shop-turned-detective-agency. Martine Cullum does a great job of blending everyday life with elements of the paranormal and spiritual, making the world feel immersive and believable.
I listened to the audio version of this book, and I have to say, Mary Phillips was fantastic. Her narration really brought the characters to life and made the emotional moments hit even harder. She’s a perfect match for this series.
The only reason I’m giving this four stars instead of five? That cliffhanger! I’m all for suspense, but this one really left me hanging. Still, it definitely has me eager to see where the story goes next. If you enjoy cozy urban fantasies with magic, friendship, and a bit of mystery, this one’s worth checking out, especially on audio.
