Although written in 1995, the visionary analysis (pun intended) by Thomas Sowell is even more relevant to an understanding of events, history, and the world in 2025. The author lays out and describes the nature, techniques, consequences of the division of what would today be called “the elites”.
However, it does so in what is a more thoughtful, and “fresh” (pardon the use of the term fresh, the book came out in the 90s, but the terms and the manner of the description used for entirely new to me. Tired of the current use of the, left/right“ division, want to better understand the roots behind political divide in the country. I have read many books and listen to many people discuss this subject, and yet have never heard anything as thoughtful, applicable, and practically useful way to think about these subjects.
Again In my opinion, it more articulately and functionally, describes a useful way to understand and analyze news, politics, events, culture then any I have heard or read before. The book is filled with examples, and anyone who has lived through the subsequent decades could fill a second volume of examples substantiating his analysis. The book dissect and exposes language and tools in common use across all modern platforms: newspapers, podcast, videos, news shows, etc…
I actually find it somewhat criminal that this analysis is not most widely known, and employed daily by those task with analyzing news and events
