LitRPG is getting a bit saturated, with Isekai being the genre de jour, so I’m always hesitant starting a new series. They can be truly well written and plotted out, or more often an average but fun listen. An Unexpected Hero ended up being high quality, well worth the credit spent.

I am usually off put by douchebag main characters, as it could be a sign of poor writing. That said, with the introduction of his first party member, Cur’s attitude was positive enough that it showed the main character’s flaws were not part of the author’s writing style, but instead a character with opportunity for growth.

Beyond that, the character interactions were funny (especially Screeny), and Sound Booth made me excited any time there was a fight scene. If I could give performance 6 out of 5 stars, I would. They turned it from an audio-book into audio-theater. I look forward to the next book in the series.
