“Dungeon Crawler Carl” presents a story that, while not particularly deep, is genuinely exciting to read. The characters are entertaining, and Matt Dinniman paces his chapters perfectly in terms of length and relevance to the plot. Although the story doesn’t take itself too seriously, you find yourself rooting for the characters and being surprised by each new adventure. Fans of Dungeons and Dragons will appreciate the small Easter eggs that add spice to the narrative, but these elements won’t leave non-D&D readers feeling lost.

Jeff Hays is by far the best narrator I’ve listened to in a long time; his varied voices and emphasis make it difficult to enjoy other narrators. Hays took a decent book and elevated it to an exceptional experience.
