All in all, it’s a good story, and if I hadn’t already read (and reread) Ready Player One, I’d consider it a fascinating story. But…. Cline did it first, exactly a decade beforehand, and alas, it falls short. Even book 2 goes fully immersive, same as Ready Player 2, so the only true novelty of the series is the narration by Justin Thomas James.
