From the start of book one, the writer seems to be trying too hard to capture what works about things like guardians of the galaxy, or suicide squad, but misses the mark badly. Instant total loyalty makes sense for exactly one character due to a species quirk, but somehow applies to EVERY character she interacts with, it’s just lazy writing.
An unlikeable main character, and the world record for most uses of the word “frag” in a story, makes the whole experience a bit of a slog. The author has no problem putting in all sorts of other expletives, raunchy commentary and the like, so it’s a very jarring choice to skip one in particular. The next time I ever hear the word “frag” it will be too soon.
