I’ve never written a review before, but this book and this author deserves to know my thoughts. I almost didn’t choose the book but I’m very happy that something kept brining me back to it.
First of all, the depth and layers of Sybil that were revealed along the way were thoughtful, humorous and yet so poignant. I loved the way everything was revealed along the journey of her life through her letters. Although it’s just a small window into the life of a single person, it provides hints and revelations about how each of us are connected. Maybe it’s because I love the written word and value letters that are handwritten or maybe because I’m about 10 years younger than Sybil was at the start of the book, but every part of her story resonated with me. I thought the writing was superb and the narration perfect. For me this book wasn’t a slow story, but one that came to life through Sybil’s words and, eventually, her raw humanity. Although I listened to the book, I’m also going to buy a a hard copy to have in my library to read again and again. I was so profoundly moved by the story, and it has become one of the most memorable works of fiction I have read in years.
