The Butchers Masquerade by Matt Dinniman is the fifth book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. This book was bloody, brutal, and brilliant. The stakes keep getting higher with each book and we see the resistance start to become public.

The story picks up right where we left off in book four, The Gate of The Feral Gods. And just the previous books, the action hooks you in right from the start. The world building continues to expand along. The emotional toll in this one was super high for me. I had all

the feels and laughed and cried, especially for two specific scenes (no spoilers). One felt cathartic and the other made me cry.

I love the found family Carl and Donut are collecting and I’m so scared to see what happens next for them. We are introduced to new characters and see some of our old favorites. The witty banter, humor, and twists and turns also kept me fully engaged. The Butchers Masquerade was a fantastic read and I can’t wait to continue on with the series. I give this book 5 stars.
