Better than it has any right to be.

The hype is real. (No Spoilers) Early on in the book there is perhaps too much detail given for how the game works and too much time given to reading out stat increases and numbers of throwaway items, but in hindsight that front-loading of information was necessary exposition that doesn’t get hammered in repetition across the later books. The narrator Jeff Hays makes me hate my voice and his performance only gets better with each successive book.
