Man this one could have been so good. The description made it sound like it would be a different apocalypse story. Made it sound like the biggest issues would be finding a shortstop for the local kickball team. It starts fantastically, funny and really like everything is as fine as it can be in the world.
However, they start hinting at it right away, and then there it is like a ton a bricks. “Humuns R Teh Reel Munsturs!” I can’t stand this trope. I am so overwhelmingly bored of this stupid trope. I am aware that humans are the real monsters. Everybody should be aware of it by now. I read/listen to books to escape. I don’t need to be beat over the head with this constantly. This book has such promise, it had a unique concept. It just fails. The voice work is amazing, Phil Thron is always fantastic. He can’t save this bog standard, boring, paint-by-numbers apocalypse book though.
My actual rating for this book is a 0/10, because it lacks any originality at all. Gave it points though, because nothing actually deserves that kind of score. I won’t be reading any more of this authors work though. What an extreme disappointment.
