Roak’s week couldn’t get much worse. Broken and left for dead by a gangster, on the radar of the local law, and roped into helping not one but two natives. He’s just trying to get paid what’s due to him for the bounty he carried out for the gangster. Roak goes from lead to lead, planet to planet, and job to job until he finally has his sights on the bounty he is owed. Then someone makes a very big mistake and Roak is not only in it for the bounty anymore, he’ll also take some revenge on the side. Everyone involved will learn that he is not to be crossed, that he will just keep coming after you until he is paid for his very specialized services.

This listen was well crafted and Roak is a believable, complicated hero. I enjoyed it and was invested in the characters. There were people I wanted to see live and people I hoped would die. The action was consistent and the tech was interesting. Readers of science fiction will enjoy it.

Andrew Wehrlen’s narration was spot on for this book. His voices were varied and both female and male characters were voiced consistently and well.
