The narrator did a great job. it does make Valroy sound a bit like an old magician, but…he kinda is a very old mage, so, it works. Valroy sounds arrogant, sexy, and troublesome. He’s very not human, and has very not-human morality. There’s more than a few horrible things and threats done by Valroy. He has no qualms about using pressure and dirty tricks to get his way. If you’re into classic fairy tales, you’ll love how this story is rooted in the old myths. Too many fae stories are just pointy earred, magic humans. The fae in this world are recognizable as something from the old stories. I’ve read all the books released so far (7 books at this point), and all the audiobooks so far (4, which is a complete set), and the world building is excellent. If you like Holly Black, but darker and spicier, you’ll like this. This is mostly a great fantasy series with some very spicy moments.
