The premise was good, and so is the narration, but the story is so unrealistic. The author claims to be a military veteran, but can’t even get the most basic military details correct such as Humvees having keys. This is a PG apocalypse story. Nothing bad happens to the main characters, everything works out just perfect for them all the time Even after making stupid decisions.
Unrealistic examples: The EMP happens pre-dawn in Colorado and yet the streets are clogged with cars that not only got shut down but caught on fire. Their dog fights a wolf in Illinois. The main character gets his hands on an M4 and flips it to three round burst, they don’t have three round burst on an M4. They encounter virtually no one at gas stations across the entire country and can just fill up their vehicle anytime their gas is getting low.
