The presentation of this story via letters written over the lifetime of one woman was interesting. I enjoyed the listen and I also found some of the people Sybil exchanged letters with fascinating. However, my concern is in Sybilʼs character development. She could and did give many excuses for the way she treated her daughter and for not even attending her childrenʼs Dadʼs funeral. But it comes down to her being a selfish and somewhat cold person who used her sonʼs (spoiler alert!) tragedy and her own adoption story as an excuse to cover her own guilt, perhaps rather than letting herself experience true grief. I understand how the main character made certain life choices, but some were tough for this reader to accept. Iʼll leave it at that, but youʼll understand if you read it. And I do heartily recommend that you do. I just couldnʼt find it in me to give this otherwise interesting read a #5.
