I liked the multiple video game and pop-culture references. The dark humor is well-placed throughout a story like this. The overall concept serves well to illustrate the futility and frustration of the human condition. Jeff Hays does a great job of keeping his multiple voices straight. Whoever edited and mixed the sound for this book did an excellent hob of adding vocal and sound effects to keep the story interesting. The fantasy and RPG video game references were a real treat for those that have the background in dungeon-crawler style games to understand them. The profanity is a bit overused and isn’t necessary for the facilitation of the story. The story-telling is great, and the story stands on its own really well. It doesn’t need to resort to copious profanity to hold the readers’ interest. Overall a good read. I’ll keep going with the series.
