I enjoyed the journeys the main characters went on to gather power and learn more about their new world. The ending fell rather flat though. The latest big bad has some hefty plot armor – has countermeasures for everything, dominates in 5v1 fights against the strongest characters, uses his soul as a resource which supposedly takes a heavy toll yet does it constantly…. There are just so many things about him that don’t make sense. And their final show down felt like it was aiming for grand and epic, but felt drawn out and tedious. The constant breaks in battle so someone can internal monolog about some new power, only for it to be useless in said battle, was so frustrating. Hopefully the next book is better, I really loved the early books, but this one felt rather flat by comparison
