I’m so used to the JCP-Gomez Pugh combo that my brain short circuited for awhile when I pressed play and Joel Leslie’s voice came on 😂 No matter, I always enjoy Joel’s performance and once again he deserved his ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The story was slow burn in two different ways. Romance wise, and this was due to the world building, character development and storyline and not because of some mind numbing wallowing. Then the other slow burn: in the beginning I was kinda thrown off by how different this book was from all other vampire stories I’ve read and I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. Then I remembered how I felt about PsyCop’s Vic when read Among the Living for the first time. So I sat back and relaxed and ended up loving this book too.
JCP’s characters are always multilayered and flawed, her stories have a unique, not so main stream take on things and sometimes they are a bit of a shock to the system before they gradually grow on you – or more like sink their claws into you. And then you’re hooked. I love re-listening her books over and over, I seem to find new meanings and nuances every time. Absolutely brilliant author 🧡
