Tyron commits the worst sin in writing: he’s annoying. He thinks he’s hot shit(his parents are Magnin and Beory Steelarm! – repeated about twice a chapter), but he’s incompetent at anything that isn’t research and spellcraft. He can’t plan for shit, he’s stupidly obsessed with trying to ‘redeem’ necromancers simply because he is one to save his own ass, he’s a coward that seeks approval but is too stupid to understand it’s not about evil, it’s about control over the classes and populace.
Frankly, I’m more interested in Elsbeth’s character and story. She’s overly emotional and naive, sure, but she seems to be able to make good decisions after getting kicked in the teeth.
