I took a few weeks to listen to this 7 book series, slipping three other novels in between. By the 7th book, I was weary of the tale; upped the speed and just wanted it finished. 43 hours is a commitment. The endless battles and violence and human depravity of Defiance made for an unpleasant listen.
The story starts out well and held my attention initially. Perhaps, listening to the books individually, over time, would keep it fresh. It is the usual EMP story with nothing new or unique offered. Except that here the EMP is the start of a World War (which is barely discussed).
Overall, it is well written, with an interesting plot and the usual assortment of characters. When the real Apocalypse happens, I’m going to fine me some X Special Forces Preppers to bunk with!
Narration was good, especially with such a large cast.
